Naxal Bhagwati Temple - Goddess Durga Bhagwati - Facemandu

Naxal Bhagwati situated at a busy road of Naxal is the temple of Hindu Goddess Bhagwati ( Durga). This temple is visited by hundreds of devotees everyday to worship Goddess Bhagwati which according to Hindu belief is the source of ultimate power and strength. This temple is one of the oldest temple in Kathmandu which is believed to be built some centuries ago.
This pagoda style temple has its great importance among Hindus and Buddhist in the valley.There are many legends about this temple and among those one of the frequently told is the story of the artist who carved the statues of Naxal Bhagwati. According to the tale the artist who carved the statue of Palanchowk Bhagwati of Kavre, Shova Bhagwati of Bishnumati river side and Nala Bhagwati of Nala is the same who carved statue of Naxal Bhagwati. It is said that after the artist made statue of Palanchowk Bhagwati, his one arm was cut off so that he couldn't make any replica of the same. But the determined artist made another pieces of Bhagwati of Shova Bhagwati and Nala Bhagwati with his one arm due to which his other arm was also chopped off. He then with the help of his feet, went to carve statue of another Bhagwati which we now call as Naxal Bhagwati.There is also a belief that one must visit all this four pilgrimage starting from Palanchowk Bhagwati for fulfillment of their wishes. Naxal Bhagwati is worshiped also with a belief that the deity will protect her devotees from evil spirits and negative energy.
